NSC Hails Samson Adamu’s Appointment as CAF Acting Secretary General
The National Sports Commission (NSC) has extended heartfelt congratulations to Nigerian football administrator Samson Adamu following his appointment as Acting Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The landmark decision, ratified at the CAF Congress held on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at the Giza Palace Hotel in Cairo, marks the first time in over 70 years that a Nigerian has been entrusted with the influential role at the helm of African football administration.
NSC Chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, described the appointment as a proud moment for Nigeria and a testament to the country’s growing stature in global sports governance.
‘This is a landmark achievement not just for Samson Adamu, but for Nigeria as a whole. His track record within CAF speaks volumes, and we are confident that he will bring excellence, integrity, and progressive leadership to this new role. Adamu, son of renowned sports administrator Dr. Amos Adamu, steps into the role following the resignation of Veron Mosengo-Omba.
He brings with him a wealth of experience, having previously served as CAF’s Director of Tournaments and Events, where he earned widespread respect for his innovation, coordination, and delivery of major continental competitions.
The NSC assured Adamu of the full support of Nigeria’s sports community as he embarks on this historic responsibility, expressing confidence that his tenure will further elevate the country’s influence in African and global football.
