NSC Hails Tinubu’s Transformative Role in Nigerian Sports on His 74th Birthday

The Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, has extended warm congratulations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, on the occasion of his 74th birthday, lauding his transformative impact on Nigeria’s sports sector.

In his statement, Dikko described the President’s leadership as a turning point for Nigerian sports, noting that under Tinubu’s administration, sports have been repositioned as a structured economic sector contributing to national growth, job creation, and youth empowerment.

He emphasized that this vision aligns with the Renewed Hope Initiative for Nigeria’s Sports Economy, which is already yielding measurable results.

Highlighting achievements from the past year, Dikko pointed to Nigeria’s haul of nearly 375 medals in international competitions, increased contributions of sports to the national GDP, and the creation of thousands of jobs across the sports value chain.

He credited these successes to President Tinubu’s bold decisions, including the restoration of the National Sports Commission with full enabling powers, which has brought clarity, accountability, and renewed confidence to the sector.

‘Mr. President’s unwavering support has ensured timely policy direction, improved funding frameworks, private sector confidence, and renewed focus on grassroots and domestic sports development,’ Dikko said.

‘This level of presidential commitment is unprecedented and continues to empower us to execute our mandate with clarity and purpose.’

The Chairman reaffirmed the Commission’s dedication to reforms ranging from grassroots expansion and school sports revival to integrity systems and international competitiveness, all in line with the President’s vision of a thriving, self-sustaining sports economy.

‘As we celebrate this special occasion, we express our deep appreciation to Mr. President for his trust, support, and bold initiatives shaping the future of Nigerian sports,’ Dikko added.
