NSC promises responsible, responsive, results-oriented Sports Federations Presidents

Mallam Shehu Dikko, the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, NSC, says Nigerians would be proud of the kind of leadership that would be produced during the National Sports Federations elections later this year.

Dikko said in an interview on SportsVille, a sports programme monitored on Channels Television that the Commission is committed to restructuring the Sports Federations to be responsive to the needs of the athletes and aid the growth of sports.

‘We are trying to bring in a proper governance structure, a governance code for the federations so that their structure will be fit for the purpose it was meant for. We want to reform the structure of the federations with a view to bringing in the right people to come and contest as presidents.

‘We are bringing in the framework that will allow only the right people contest for the president of the federations; it cannot be an all-comers affair again.

‘Whoever is coming in must be able to produce certain guarantees and credibility to contest.

‘We have already made the proposal to bring in a Chief Operating Officer for each of the Federations and the person will come from the private sector who will interface between the Federations and the private sector so that they can get the right investment and the right organization for the federation,’ said Dikko.

The former Nigeria Football Federation second vice President says Nigerians will be proud of what the outcome of the reforms will be after the Sports Federations’ electionS later this year.

‘People will be shocked with the kind of personalities that will contest elections into the sports federations, people that will be able to bring money from their pocket and not just their technical knowhow,’ he added.
