NWFL Announces Return of Nationwide League for 2025 Season

The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has officially announced the reinstatement of the NWFL Nationwide League for the 2025 calendar season, marking its first edition since 2023.
This development signals a renewed commitment to strengthening the women’s football structure across the country.
The NWFL Nationwide, recognized as the third tier in Nigeria’s women’s football pyramid, was last held in 2023 before being discontinued in 2024 and replaced by the now-suspended States League.
Its return has been made possible through the recommendation and approval of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), under the leadership of President Ibrahim Gusau.
Speaking on the announcement, NWFL Chief Operating Officer, Modupe Shabi, emphasized the strategic importance of the Nationwide League in the broader development of the sport.
‘The reinstatement of the NWFL Nationwide is a significant step towards strengthening the women’s football pyramid in Nigeria, hugely thanks to the President Ibrahim Gusau-led NFF board,’ Shabi stated.
‘As the third tier, it plays a vital role in discovering and nurturing talent, giving more grassroots clubs and players the opportunity to compete, grow, and aspire to higher levels of the game.’
The NWFL has urged all interested clubs across the country to complete their registration within the stipulated timeframe. Registration officially opens on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, and will close on Friday, September 26, 2025.
All entries must be submitted via email to [email protected]. The league has made it clear that no late entries will be accepted.
The 2025 NWFL Nationwide League is scheduled to run from October 3 to October 12, 2025, with the host venue to be announced in due course.
