Enyimba FC of Aba have dethroned Rivers United FC of Portharcourt as the 2023 Nigeria Premier League champions.

The ‘Peoples Elephant’ played out a 1-1 draw with Rivers United at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos on Sunday and it was enough to win their
ninth title, the most ever in the history of Nigerian football.

Enyimba finished on nine points alongside Remo Stars and Rivers United, but they had a superior goal difference.

Enyimba and Remo Stars will represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League next season, while Rivers United will play in the CAF Confederations Cup after
finishing third on the table in the championship playoff.

Bendel Insurance of Benin who finished the regular season undefeated but lost two of their five games in the playoffs returned empty handed to Benin City.

The ‘Edo Arsenal’, as they are fondly called will now be looking to secure a continental ticket when they play Rangers International FC of Enugu in the final
of the Federation Cup later this month.
