Oborodudu not second time lucky as she loses bronze medal match in Wrestling

Blessing Oborodudu made history three years ago as the first Nigerian to win a medal in Wrestling in the history of the Olympic Games.

Her dream for a repeat performance three years later was not realized after losing the bronze medal fight in the 68kg on Tuesday evening.

The Nigerian lost 3-0 (Victory on Points) to Japan’s Nonoka Ozaki.

Prior to the Games in Paris, the 35 year old Oborududu picked up three dominant wins at the Africa and Oceania Olympic Qualifier and punched her third consecutive ticket to the Olympic Games.

She made her senior-level debut at the 2009 African Championships where she finished with a bronze medal.

Since then, from 2010-2020, Oborududu won ten African gold medals. She’s also a two-time Ranking Series medalist. She won bronze medals at the 2019 Yasar Dogu and 2020 Matteo Pellicone and capped it with the historic Olympic silver in Tokyo.
