‘Your departure hurts, knowing we’re not going to see you again hurts more,’ Oduduru mourns late athletics coach Agboro
Nigeria 200m record holder, Divine Oduduru is morning the untimely passing of athletics coach, Raymond Agboro.
Agboro passed on recently and Oduduru who made history as the second Nigerian to successfully complete a 100/200m NCAA double has paid tribute to the late Agboro in a Facebook post.
‘Your departure hurts, knowing we’re not going to see you again hurts more. Many did not understand our relationship- my coach, my mentor, and my father.
‘Many judged from a distance, I remember when you drove to my secondary school ‘West End Mixed Secondary School, Asaba,’ to train us for inter house sport and how you bought us food at the stadium and drove us to ‘St Bridget’s Grammar School, Asaba,’ for training.
‘I remember when your athletes were sent back from entering the bus for competition, but we kept pushing. You never stopped believing in us. You were a great man who trained athletes who are now coaching and athletes who reached the world level.
‘You will forever be remembered by those whose lives you impacted. Though you are no longer with us but you are still alive in the hearts of those who valued every moment and impact you made. Rest on, Coach Raymond Agboro,’ wrote Oduduru.
