Ofili, Brume, Enekwechi ranked among top 10 in the world in their events
Favour Ofili, Ese Brume and Chukwuebuka Enelwechi are the only three Nigerians to be ranked in the top 10 of their individual events in the latest World Rankings.
The trio made the final of their respective event at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Ofili rose from the disappointment and trauma of getting her hopes dashed in the women’s 100m following her non-registration for the event by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria to make it to the 200m final, fishing sixth (22.24).
The 21-year-old moved from 31st pre-Olympics to eighth in the first post-Olympics rankings before dropping to ninth in the latest update following her decision to end her season with the Olympics.
In the 100m, she is the top ranked Nigerian and 19th in the world.
Brume has always belonged among the top 10 in the long jump, and she has retained her status albeit she had to drop from third pre-Olympics to fourth in the first post-Olympics rankings and now sixth after she also shut down her season after finishing fifth (6.70m) at the Paris Olympics.
Enekwechi remains the top ranked Nigerian since late August 2019 when he reclaimed his number status from Divine Oduduru.
The 31-year-old is ranked not just the best in Nigeria and Africa in the event but the sixth best in the world after finishing sixth (21.42m) at the Paris Olympics and fifth (21.29m) at the Diamond League final in Brussels, Belgium.
