Ofili grateful for opportunity to compete in Grand Slam Track

Favour Ofili says she is grateful for the opportunity to compete in the money-spinning Grand Slam Track, the acclaimed new global home of professional track competition.

The 22-year-old, scratched out of the opening leg of the four-leg meetings in Kingston, Jamaica last month, returned to compete in the second leg in Miami, Florida, USA at the weekend and finished fourth in the Short Sprint (100m and 200m events).

The Nigerian ran a wind-aided 10.94 to finish third in the 100m event behind Melissa Jefferson-Wouden`(10.75) and Tamara Davis (10.79).

In the 200m, the Paris Olympic 200m finalist finished fourth in a 22.27 personal season’s best behind Gabby Thomas (21.95), Davis (22.05) and Jefferson-Wouden (22.15).

She finished fourth in the overall classification with 11 points behind Jefferson-Wooden (18 points), Thomas (17 points) and Davis (16 points).

For her effort, she was rewarded with $25,000, her biggest prize money win in any track and field competition.

Ofili took to her social media pages to express her delight at becoming the first Nigerian to compete in the competition.

‘Grateful for the opportunity and for God’s grace through it all. @grandllamtrack,’ she wrote.

Next up for Ofili will be the World Relays in China if she has changed her mind to compete.
