Ofili, Nwachukwu To Race at The 2024 Edwin Moses Legends Meet Friday
The Nigerian duo of Favour Ofili and Dubem Nwachukwu are set to compete at the 2024 Edwin Moses Legends Meet on Friday in Atlanta, Georga, USA.
The meeting, a World Athletics Continental Tour (silver) event, is named after the great 400m hurdler, Edwin Moses, the two-time Olympic champion (1976 and 1984) and two World champion (1983 and 1987).
Ofili, the African 150m record holder will be praying for a favourable wind as she competes for the third time this outdoor season in the 100m after massive tail winds rendered her 10.85 and 10.78 performance in March and April respectively were rendered illegal.
All eyes will thus be on the 21 year old as she hopes to set a marker in the event ahead of the Olympic Games in Paris, France between July and August.
Nwachukwu, who switched allegiance to Nigeria in July 2023 will also be in action but in the full lap race where his focus will on running at least 45.00 seconds to seal a place in Nigeria’s team to the Paris Olympics.
The 24 year old knows he needs to be better than the shape he was in March when he ran 45.89 to qualify for the final of the 400m at the African Games.
His recent performances, running 46.63 and 47.09 in April do not inspire confidence but you can write off an athlete who ran 44.81 just last year from not springing what will surely pass for a surprise at this stage.
