Ofili set to extend 60m head-to-head record against Chukwuma at 2025 LSU Twilight, eyes World indoor ticket
Paris 2024 Olympics 200m finalist, Favour Ofili and 100m semifinalist, Rosemary Chukwuma will open their 2025 indoor season on Friday at the LSU Twilight at the Carl Maddox Field House in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Ofili and Chukwuma were standout performers during their collegiate days and both have met twice over the 60m the Olympic finalist edging both to take a 2-0 lead.
The Louisiana State University, LSU, graduate ran 7.17 to win their first head to head clash in the event at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic in 2022 finishing second in the race while Chukwuma, who graduated from Texas Tech University finished fifth.
The duo met again at the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships the following year at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where Ofili ran her 7.14 lifetime best in the event to place second in the first round heat ahead of Chukwuma who ran 7.23 to place fifth.
Chukwuma is however the faster of the two with her 7.09 lifetime best over the distance and should be confident of getting her first win over her friend.
Meanwhile, the major battle before the duo is not about who wins on Friday but about the challenge posed by Tima Godbless who blazed to a 7.08 lifetime best penultimate weekend and Success Umukoro who has also been in great form.
The duo will also be aiming to secure qualification for the event at the World Indoor Championships next month in Nanjing and can only achieve that if they run faster than Godbless and Umukoro who have both secured automatic entry to the city of China.
