Ogbonda signs new 2-year deal with Rangers, targets 2026 NPFL title
Rangers International FC have secured the services of one of their most dependable stars as versatile midfielder and utility ace Evans Ogbonda penned a fresh two-year deal to remain with the eight-time Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions through the 2026/2027 season.
The contract extension was formally sealed on Monday at the club’s corporate headquarters in Enugu, with General Manager and CEO, Amobi Ezeaku Esq., and Administrative Secretary, Barrister Alex Egbo, in attendance.
Speaking after the signing, Ogbonda expressed unwavering loyalty to the Coal City outfit and reaffirmed his ambition to help the club return to its former glory.
‘Rangers remains the biggest club in the country despite what happened last season. I’m staying because we have unfinished business,’ he said. ‘Enugu has shown me love. I won’t turn my back on them just because of a rough patch. We will restore Rangers to the top by next season.’
Ogbonda credited his decision to the strong bond he shares with the people of Enugu and praised the club’s coaching staff and management for their dedication to player welfare.
CEO Amobi Ezeaku praised Ogbonda’s professionalism, saying the club is poised for a strong campaign following strategic recruitment and internal rebuilding.
‘Evans is the kind of player every club wants. His consistency, leadership, and commitment are unmatched,’ said Ezeaku. ‘We’ve retooled effectively and with the quality we’ve brought in, we believe the 2025/2026 title is well within our reach.’
