Ogunleye, Mihambo confirmed for Sparkassen Indoor Meeting in Dortmund

Reigning Olympic Shot Put champion Yemisi Ogunleye and 2021 Olympic Long Jump champion, Malaika Mihambo have been confirmed to compete at the Sparkassen Indoor Meeting scheduled to hold on January 18 at the Helmut-Körnig-Halle in Dortmund.

“We are incredibly proud to have won Yemisi Ogunleye for the Sparkassen Indoor Meeting. It stands for world-class athletics and will certainly be a highlight of the event.

‘Your participation sends a strong signal and will not only appeal to the fans, but also in terms of the standing that the Sparkassen Indoor Meeting has gained internationally in recent years,” said Yoshi Müller, head of organization of the meeting.

Müller is also delighted to have Mihambo compete at the World Athletics Indoor Tour Bronze Label event.

“We are very pleased that we were able to win Malaika Mihambo again for our meeting. She is not only a great athlete, but also an impressive personality who inspires everyone with her charisma,’ he said.

Mihambo will face strong competition in Dortmund with Mikaelle Assani, who finished fourth at the 2024 European Championships, one of her challengers.

The 22-year-old is considered one of the greatest German talents in the long jump and wants to stand up to her role model Mihambo.

Also confirmed is the only 20-year-old Laura Raquel Müller, last year’s winner of the Sparkassen Indoor Meeting and European Championship and Olympic participant last summer.
