Ogunleye set for 2025 Diamond League debut at Prefontaine Classic

Olympic champion Yemisi Ogunleye is set to make her eagerly anticipated 2025 Diamond League debut at the 50th edition of the Prefontaine Classic on July 5 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
The Nigeria-born German shot putter, who made history in 2024 by becoming the first German woman since Astrid Kumbernuss in 1996 to win Olympic gold in the event, will be looking to rediscover her top form ahead of the World Championships in Tokyo.
Ogunleye opened her 2025 season with a lifetime best of 20.27m indoors in March but has surpassed the 20m mark only thrice in her career.
With the women’s shot put among the 14 Diamond League events scheduled at the Prefontaine Classic, the meet offers a crucial opportunity for Ogunleye to build momentum and consistency as she aims to become the first German woman since Christina Schwanitz in 2015 to win a world title in the discipline.
All eyes will be on the reigning Olympic champion as she steps into the ring in Eugene, hoping to make a statement on her road to Tokyo.
