Okezie Heads to Stockholm for BAUHAUS-galan Indoor meet

Days after opening his season with a 46.62 run over 400m at the CMCM Luxembourg Indoor Meeting, African Games champion Chidi Okezie is set to compete at the BAUHAUS-galan Indoor in Stockholm on Thursday.

The Nigerian, 32, will line up in the World Athletics Indoor Tour Silver event as he looks to improve on his lifetime best of 46.48.

Okezie will be looking to become only the ninth Nigerian athlete to break the 46-second barrier indoors.

The BAUHAUS-galan is one of the highlights of the indoor calendar, attracting a star-studded field across multiple disciplines, though Okezie’s focus will be firmly on his own race.

Among the big names confirmed for the meet are the Jamaican trio of sprinters, Kishane Thompson and the Clayton sisters, Tina and Tia.

Nigeria’s Nathaniel Ezekiel currently holds both the national and African indoor record at 44.74, setting the benchmark for Okezie and his compatriots.

Later this year, Okezie hopes to make his Commonwealth Games debut for Nigeria, adding to a career that already includes appearances at the Olympic Games and World Championships.
