Okezie runs 45.75 in Finland, Nwachukwu clocks 45.80 in California
African Games 400m king, Chidi Okezie ran 45.75 to win at the Motonet GP Joensuu 2024, a World Athletics Continental Tour – Challenger meeting in Finland on Sunday while a day earlier, Dubem Nwanchukwu ran his second fastest 400m time of the season at the Sunset Tour Los Angeles 2024, a World Athletics Continental Tour – Bronze event in Los Angeles in California, USA.
Okezie, who will be running in the 400m event at the Paris 2024 Olympics, promised in a Facebook post to bounce back to reckoning after posting what he considered disappointing runs in Douala, Cameroon at the 23rd African Athletics Championships, crashing out at the semifinals despite running 45.96.
His 45.75 is sure an improvement and will be looking to get back into the sub-45 seconds form he was prior to the Cameroon event.
Also returning to form is Nwachukwu who has not competed since June 17 when he ran 45.70 to place third at the Nigerian Championships in Benin city, Edo state.
Nwachukwu’s 45.80 seconds run will now put him in a strong position to be selected for the 4x400m relay event at the Olympics in Paris.
The 24 year old who switched allegiance from the USA to Nigeria exactly a year ago is registered for the men’s 4x400m at the Olympics in his debut at the greatest sporting fiesta on earth.
