Okpekpe race champion, Daniel Ebenyo emerges Kenyan 5000m champion

Reigning Okpekpe international 10km road race champion and record holder, Daniel Simiu Ebenyo has emerged the Kenyan 5000m
champion.

The 27 year old Kenyan Police athlete ran 13:31:25 to win ahead of another Police athlete, Robert Kiprop (13:37:64) and
Rapahael Dapash of Rift Valley club who ran 13:38:26 to place third.

Ebenyo, who ran 28:28 to set a new course record on his way to winning the title in Okpekpe had boasted after his victory
that he was setting his sight on the Kenyan Championships and the Kenyan World Championships trials.

‘I want to go to the World Championships to win a medal but I can only do that if I win at the Kenyan trials. It is the
most competitive in the world,’ he told reporters after his record smashing feat in Okpekpe.

Ebenyo came to the Okpekpe 10km road race as the 14th fastest ever over the distance.

This year, he has won five of the six races he has participated in, faltering only at the World Cross Country Championships in
Bathurst, Australia in February, running 30:01 to place fourth in the final.
