Olatunji scores in Sparta Praque win to become 37th Nigerian to score in UEFA Champions League
Little known Victor Olatunji has become the first Nigerian to score in the UEFA Champions League this season after netting the second goal in his club, Sparta Prague’s 3-0 defeat of visiting RB Salzburg of Austria.
The 25-year-old forward who has scored four times in nine appearances in UEFA Champions League qualifying games has also become the 37th Nigerian to score in the history of the Championships.
Olatunji is also the 16th Nigerian to have scored once in the competition, joining the likes of Celestine Babayaro, Daniel Amokachi, Austin Okocha, Chinedu Obasi and Victor Moses.
The Nigerian has scored twice for Sparta Praque in the league so far, this new season and has improved his total haul to 13 in 61 games across all competitions for the club.
The focus will now shift to the red-hot duo of Victor Boniface and Ademola Lookman on Thursday as they also seek to also start with a bang in the competition.
Lookman is returning to the competition since he featured for RB Leipzig in 2019 while Boniface will be making his debut after scoring five times in four UEFA Champions League qualifying games for Norwegian side, FK Bodø/Glimt in the 2022/23 season.
