Once again, Amusan delivers resounding reminder of her elite status in Ostrava
Tobi Amusan delivered a resounding reminder of her elite status on Tuesday night, blazing to victory in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Golden Spike meet in Ostrava, Czech Republic.
The Nigerian clocked 12.45 seconds in a smooth performance, collecting her 10th Diamond League win in what was her 25th career appearance in the competition.
Amusan, the reigning world record holder (12.12), had endured a muted 2024 season, missing out on both the Diamond League crown and her world title in Budapest. But her triumph in Ostrava signals a determined resurgence.
She comfortably held off Viktória Forster of Slovakia (12.74) and Ireland’s Sarah Lavin (12.76), who both notched season’s bests. Austria’s Karin Strametz (12.83) and Hungary’s Anna Tóth (12.86) followed, with Elena Carraro (13.01) and Helena Jiranová (13.27) rounding out the field.
The win places Amusan squarely back in contention not just for the Diamond League title, but also the 2025 World Championships—where she’ll face the most competitive crop of hurdlers in years.
Leading the charge is Olympic champion Masai Russell, whose blazing 12.17 this season is second only to Amusan’s world record. Close behind are Tia Jones (12.19), Grace Stark (12.21), and 2024 standout Ackera Nugent (12.24), all signaling a rapidly rising standard in women’s sprint hurdles.
Yet, if Ostrava proved anything, it’s that Amusan isn’t ready to hand over the baton just yet.
