One month to go: University of Jos gears up for 27th NUGA Games

The countdown is officially on as the University of Jos (UNIJOS) prepares to host the 27th edition of the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) Games, scheduled to run from November 6 to 16, 2025.

With just one month remaining, preparations are in full swing to welcome 7,457 accredited athletes and officials from universities across the country. The ten-day event promises intense competition, camaraderie, and a celebration of excellence in university sports.

As Nigeria’s premier inter-university sporting event, the NUGA Games will feature student-athletes competing across multiple disciplines, with a focus on promoting unity, discovering talent, and driving national development through sport.

Preliminary qualifiers have already concluded, or are currently underway, across the 15 NUGA zones, determining the institutions that will advance to the main event in Jos.

Speaking on the university’s readiness, Vice Chancellor Professor Ishaya Tanko expressed confidence in UNIJOS’s capacity to deliver a memorable Games.

‘The University of Jos is fully ready to host the nation. This event is not just about competition; it’s an opportunity to promote sports excellence, strengthen unity among our young people, and showcase the hospitality and capacity of our institution and the Plateau community,’ he said.

This marks the first time UNIJOS will host the NUGA Games since its founding, and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) has assured that facilities, logistics, and security arrangements are being finalized to meet international standards.

NUGA officials have confirmed that volunteer registration, media accreditation, and promotional activities are ongoing via official platforms to ensure smooth coordination ahead of the Games.
