‘One of the worst decisions that I’ve seen in a long time’: Shearer blasts Lewis-Skelly red card in Wolves Vs Arsenal game

Former England striker, Alan Shearer says decision by centre referee, Micheal Oliver to show Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly in their game against Wolves at the Molineux on Saturday evening was ‘one of the worst decisions’ he has seen in his life.

Lewis-Skelly was shown a straight red card for what Oliver deemed a serious foul play. Nelson Semedo countered past the Arsenal youngster in his own half and the Lewis-Skelly triped him.

The red card means Lewis-Skelly has become the third youngest player to be sent off in the Premier League era (in addition to Micheal Owen and Wayne Rooney).

Meanwhile, Arsenal have had 4 players sent off in the Premier League this season, more than any other team in the competition.

Premier League legend and all-time top scorer with 260 goals in 444 appearances, Alan Shearer believes the decision was horrendous.

‘As a referee you can get it wrong on the pitch, you might see something which is incorrect.

‘How on earth Darren England, the VAR, thinks that the referee has got that right and there is no need to send him to the screen.

‘One of the worst decisions that I’ve seen in a long time.

‘I just cannot see and work out what VAR is thinking going along with Michael Oliver’s decision.

‘No wonder it gets criticised by so many people,’ Shearer said on BBC Radio 5 Live
