Onojuvwevwo joins team in Douala, Godbless may come in today
Ella Onojuvwevwo has arrived in Douala and may be part of the athletes that will file out Friday afternoon for the start of the preliminary round of the women’s 400m event.
The 19 year old and Tima Godbless did not arrive with the team Thursday morning fueling speculations that they may have dropped out of the team.
The quartermile sensation’s arrival has boosted confidence that Nigeria can qualify for the women’s 4x400m at the Paris Olympics.
Onojuvwevwo is the fastest Nigerian over the full lap this year and second fastest in Africa behind Mary Moraa of Kenya.
The 2024 NCAA outdoor championships’ 400m finalist has been phenomenal this year, running inside 51 seconds five times with a 50.57 lifetime best as the icing on her cake of incredible performances.
The time is the fastest by a Nigerian 400m runner since 2001 when Falilat Ogunkoya ran 50.50 to qualify for her fourth straight 400m final at the World Athletics Championships in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Meanwhile, Godbless has finally been reached and Sportsnow.com.ng gathered the 19 year old may be in Douala later today or on Saturday but may have been ruled out of the 100m event which starts Friday afternoon.
