Onojuvwevwo Sets New PB, Misses SEC 200m Final

Ella Onojuvwevwo came agonizingly close to history at the SEC Indoor Championships in Bryan-College Station, Texas, on Thursday.

The 20-year-old Nigerian sprinter clocked a personal best of 23.02 seconds in the women’s 200m, edging nearer to becoming only the fourth Nigerian woman to dip under 23 seconds indoors.

Despite the breakthrough, she narrowly missed out on a spot in the final, ending her hopes of a maiden SEC title in the 200m.

Also missing from Saturday’s 200m final are Tennessee’s Esther Joseph, who ran 23.14, and Mississippi State’s Adetutu Aladeloye, who finished in 24.50.

In the men’s 200m, Joshua Caleb bowed out after running 21.04 seconds to place second in his heat, a time that was not fast enough to secure one of the eight qualifying spots for the final.
