Onuachu hands in transfer request at Southampton

Reports in the Turkish media are claiming that Southampton’s Nigerian forward Paul Onuachu has handed in a transfer request.

The 30-year-old has been linked with a return to Trabzonspor following his loan spell with the Super Lig side last season.

Fanatik reports that Onuachu is unhappy with his situation at the club despite returning to pre-season training and made trip to Spain for warm weather training with the Saints.

The media outlet also reported that Onuachu has told Saints boss Russell Martin he wants to leave the club this summer.

The Nigerian’s obvious destination will be Trabzonspor who have been seeking his signature after scoring 17 times in 25 appearances for the Super Lig club while on loan from Southampton last season.

Onuachu joined Southampton from Belgian Pro League side, RCK Genk in January 2023 but failed to replicate the form that saw him score 16 goals in 19 league games in the first half of the 2022/23 season with Genk.

At Southampton, the lanky Nigerian started just four of the 11 appearances he made in the Premier League and neither scored nor provided an assist.
