Onuachu suspended for Beşiktaş showdown after Göztepe booking

Paul Onuachu will miss Trabzonspor’s Week 16 clash with Beşiktaş after picking up his fourth yellow card of the season during Sunday’s 2-1 victory away to Göztepe at the Gürsel Aksel Stadium.

The Nigerian striker was cautioned in the 73rd minute, triggering an automatic suspension that rules him out of the highly anticipated meeting with Wilfred Ndidi’s Beşiktaş at Papara Park.

Onuachu, 31, has been a talisman for Trabzonspor this season, leading the Süper Lig scoring charts with 11 goals.

His contributions have been vital to the burgundy-blue side’s campaign, but his disciplinary record has now left them without their top scorer for one of the marquee fixtures of the year.

The towering forward had previously been booked against Samsunspor, Fenerbahçe, and İkas Eyüpspor, meaning his caution against Göztepe pushed him over the suspension threshold.

The timing is particularly significant, as the Beşiktaş clash could have been his final appearance of 2025 for Trabzonspor if he is named in Nigeria’s 28-man squad for the Africa Cup of Nations, which begins on December 23.
