Onwuzurike set to return to action in Luzern, Switzerland
Former World U20 champion, Udodi Onwuzurike will return to action on Tuesday, nearly one month after he last competed at the Nigerian Championships in Benin city, Edo state.
The 21 year old has been confirmed to run in the 200m event at the Spitzen Leichtathletik Luzern 2024, a World Athletics Continental Tour – Silver meeting in Luzern, Switzerland.
The Nigerian holds a personal season’s best of 20.13 and will be up against as many as four African athletes who have broken 20 seconds this year led by Uganda’s Orogot Tarsis whose 19.75 run in the NCAA circuit pushed Onwuzurike into fourth place on the list of NCAA fastest 200m runners in history.
Also confirmed is reigning World U20 champion in the 100m, Benji Richardson of South Africa who ran his 19.99 personal best in the 200m event this year and stormed to a 9.86 lifetime best in the blue ribband event on Sunday.
Onwuzurike, who will be making his Olympic debut in Paris, will also come up against Zimbabwe duo of Charamba Makanakaishe and Makarawu Tapiwanashe, both of whom have also raced inside 20 seconds viz 19.95 and 19.93 respectively.
