Onwuzurike to face Lyles, Jacobs; Russell to battle Charlton, Nugent over 60m hurdles at New Balance Indoor Grand Prix

Former World U20 champion, Udodi Onwuzurike will face Noah Lyles for the second time this season after he was confirmed to run in the 60m event at the 2025 New Balance Indoor Grand Prix, a World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold event on Sunday February 2.

The Nigerian ran 6.70 to place third at the RADD Sports College Invitational and Multi-Event in Gainesville, Florida last week behind Lyles who won in 6.62.

Also listed for the event are 2021 Olympic champion, Marcel Jacobs of Italy, Zharnel Hughes, Trayvon Bromell of USA and a few others.

Meanwhile, Olympic 100m hurdles champion, Masai Russell, will take on Devynne Charlton, the world record-holder in the 60m hurdles at the same event.

During last year’s indoor campaign, Russell finished just outside the medals at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in fourth place, behind Charlton who took gold for The Bahamas in a world record of 7.65.

However, in the final of the 100m hurdles at the Olympic Games in Paris, Russell came out on top, winning gold in 12.33, with Charlton in finishing sixth in 12.56.

Also confirmed for the 60m hurdles event are two other finalists from the Olympic final in Paris: Grace Stark of the USA and Ackera Nugent of Jamaica.
