Onyedika Named in Champions League Team of the Week After Atletico Heroics

Super Eagles midfielder Raphael Onyedika has been named in the WhoScored UEFA Champions League Team of the Week following his outstanding performance in Club Brugge’s thrilling 3–3 draw against Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their playoff qualifier.
Onyedika was instrumental in ensuring Brugge avoided defeat at home, scoring the team’s opening goal before setting up their third to level the contest.
His decisive contributions highlighted his combative presence in midfield and earned him a place in the Team of the Week’s 4-4-2 formation.
The Nigerian international was selected alongside Galatasaray’s Gabriel Sara, Paris Saint-Germain’s Desire Doue, and Bayer Leverkusen’s Noa Lang in midfield.
Other notable inclusions were Benfica goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin, Borussia Dortmund defenders Julian Ryerson and Ramy Bensebaini, Real Madrid’s Dean Huijsen, and Bayer Leverkusen duo Alejandro Grimaldo and Patrik Schick.
Despite his recognition, Onyedika will miss the return leg in Spain next week, a significant blow for Club Brugge as they seek progression in the competition.
