Onyeka Banking on AFCON 2025 Form for First EPL Start for Brentford in Neary Two Years!

Frank Onyeka is hoping that his strong performances for Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where he partnered Wilfred Ndidi to marshal the Super Eagles’ defensive midfield, will be enough to earn him a place in Brentford’s starting lineup once again.

The midfielder has not started a Premier League game since March 2024, when he featured in a 2-1 defeat away to Burnley at Turf Moor.

Onyeka has missed Brentford’s last 13 matches, six due to AFCON duty and seven as an unused substitute.

As the Bees prepare to face Nottingham Forest at the Gtech Community Stadium on Sunday, he will be seeking his first start not only since last year but also in his fifth appearance against Forest.

His record against them includes one win, two draws, and a single assist, which adds to the five assists he has managed across 75 Premier League appearances.

This season, Onyeka has featured just six times in the league, contributing one assist. A return to the starting XI would mark a significant step forward for the Nigerian midfielder as he looks to translate his international form into club success.
