Osimhen, Akor Lead Nigeria’s Charge Against Tanzania in AFCON 2025 Showdown

Iwobi marks 19th AFCON appearance

Victor Osimhen will be looking to reignite his scoring form as Nigeria takes on Tanzania in their opening match of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025.

The Napoli striker, who has netted just once in eight AFCON appearances, partners Akor Adams in a bold 4-4-2 setup deployed by head coach Éric Chelle. Akor, wearing jersey number 22, adds fresh energy to the attack, hoping to make his mark on the continental stage.

Alex Iwobi, a veteran of the squad, makes his 19th appearance in the competition. Despite his experience, the midfielder has only one goal to his name in AFCON history and will be eager to contribute more decisively this time around.

On the flanks, Ademola Lookman returns as one of Nigeria’s most exciting prospects. After a standout performance in Ivory Coast last year, Lookman is poised to score his fourth AFCON goal in what will be his eighth appearance.

In goal, Stanley Nwabali retains his spot after a stellar campaign in 2024, where he played all seven matches and kept four clean sheets while conceding just four goals. His eighth appearance comes with high expectations as Nigeria aims to start strong in Morocco.

Samuel Chukwueze also features in the starting eleven, making his 15th appearance in the tournament. The Fulham winger has scored twice in previous editions and will be counted on to provide width and attacking flair from the right.

With a squad blending experience and ambition, Nigeria enters the clash against the Taifa Stars with confidence and a hunger to reclaim continental glory.

The red-hot atmosphere in Morocco sets the stage for what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
