Osimhen and Lookman win Serie A awards

Nigerian strikers Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman ave been named Serie A January player of the month by two different bodies.

While Osimhen, the Napoli striker has been named Serie A Player of the Month after contributing five goals and an assist in January, Italian Players’ Union picked Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman.

Nigeria international Osimhen is currently the top scorer (Capocannoniere) in the Serie A with 16 goals in 17 games and the 24 year old is one of the main reasons why the Partenopei are 13 points clear at the top of the table.

Osimhen scored five times for Napoli in January with strikes against Sampdoria , Juventus , Salernitana and AS Roma after firing blanks in his club’s first game of the month, the 1-0 loss to Inter Milan.

He also bagged an assist in the 5-2 demolition of Juventus where the former Lille of France player netted a brace.

Osimhen topped the poll ahead of Paulo Dybala of Roma, Inter’s Lautaro Martinez, Atalanta winger Lookman and Lazio midfielder Luis Alberto and will receive the EA Sports Player of the Month trophy before kick-off in Sunday’s match against Cremonese.

The AIC Player of the Month award, voted for and handed out by the Italian Players’ Union, went to Lookman instead, who scored five goals and provided two assists for Atalanta in January.
The five goals included the braces he scored against Salernitana in the 8:2 win and in the 3-3 draw versus Juventus .
