Osimhen begins Galatasaray training, gets Onuachu’s 15 goals a season challenge
Victor Osimhen has returned to Istanbul, Turkey and began training with his new team on Thursday ahead of Saturday’s visit of Rizespor to the Rams Global Stadyumu in a Turkish Super Lig Matchday five fixture.
The 25-year-old helped Nigeria secure four out of six available points in their opening two games of qualifiers for next year’s Africa Cup of Nations and Galatasaray will be banking on the Super Eagle to help the club defend the title they won last season.
Osimhen will also be challenged by Paul Onuachu’s record as the most prolific Nigerian in the Turkish Super Lig in a season.
Onuachu scored 15 goals in 25 matches while on loan at the Turkish Super Lig club last season to beat by one goal the record Emmanuel Emenike set in the 2010-2011 season while at Karabukspor.
In Italy where Osimhen has spent four seasons, the former Lille star did not only become the top Nigerian nay African top scorer in the Serie A with 65 goals in 108 appearances, but also the most prolific in a single season with his 26 goals in 32 games.
