Nets goal number 10 vs Sampdoria, becomes second African player to score 10+ goals in three different Serie A seasons
Victor Osimhen has become the second African player to score 10+ goals in three different Serie A seasons, after George Weah with Milan (1995/96, 1996/97 and 1997/98).
Osimhen ensured this with his 10th goal of the campaign in Napoli’s 2-0 win over relegation strugglers Sampdoria on Sunday to maintain a hold over the top of the Serie A table.
The Nigerian scored on 19 minutes to put the visitors ahead at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris after his teammate Matteo Politano missed a sixth minute penalty.
Eljif Elmas made it 2-0 from the spot in the second half after Ronaldo Vieira had handled the ball.
It was another impressive performance from Osimhen, who now has ten Serie A goals in his bag so far.
The 24 year old centre-forward has also racked up three assists in the season and has not been held back by injuries, something which was an issue for him in the last two campaigns.
Everything suggests that things are looking very bright for the ex-Lille man who still tops the Serie A top scorers chart with his 10 goals, two more than Bologna’s Marko Arnautovic, Spezia’s M’Bala Nzola and Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez.
Edin Dzeko (Inter), Ciro Immobile (Lazio), Ademola Lookman (Atalanta) and AC Milan’s Rafael Leao are third with seven goals each.
Osimhen scored 10 goals in 24 games in his first season (2020/21) and added four more (14) in 27 appearances in his second season (2021/22).
Weah, the first and only African to have been voted Africa, Europe and World footballer of the year in 1995 scored 11 goals in 26 appearances in his first season (1995/96), 13 in 27 games in 1996/97 season and 10 goals in 24 matches in the 1997/98 season.
