Osimhen: I don’t see Icardi and Batshuayi as my rivals at Galatasaray
Galatasaray’s new star Victor Osimhen provided an assist on his debut for the Turkish Super Lig champion in their 5-0 defeat of Çaykur Rizespor on Saturday and revealed he was not in a battle for the top striker’s shirt with former Inter Milan and PSG forward, Mauro Icardi and Michy Batshuayi, the former Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund striker.
Asked in an interview with beIN Sports about Icardi and Batshuayi, Osimhen said: ‘I wouldn’t say it’s really a fight for the jersey. Icardi is the legend of this game. Batshuayi is also a deadly player. That was one of the exciting things for me coming here.
‘There are things I can learn from them. I think we can complement each other’s quality. We believe that we will move the team forward together.’
The Nigerian also revealed his feelings about coming to the club before and after he joined have not changed.
‘I am very happy to be here. There was no question mark in my mind. What I thought before I arrived and what I saw after I arrived was exactly the same. I know Galatasaray is a big club,’ he said and shared his thoughts about his first game.
‘It was a great feeling. It was an important match for us. It’s also my first match. I’m very happy that we won by a big margin. We have to continue in this way.’
Osimhen also he revealed he thought he scored Galatasaray’s second goal.
‘I thought I scored the goal first. Later, I saw Abdülkerim (Bardakcı) touch his foot. It was an assist,’ he said.
