Osimhen: ‘I’ve been wanting to score a goal like that for a long time’

Victor Osimhen has revealed he has been waiting for the opportunity to score the wonder goal he netted in Galatasaray’s 3-0 defeat of Antalyaspor in a Super Lig match on Saturday.

Osimhen revealed he had wanted to try it the moment the ball was coming his way but had to wait for the perfect moment.

‘Actually, I wanted to try it the first time, but the opponent caught up with me. If I had tried and touched it, it would have been a free kick. So, I let the ball bounce, and the opponent fell. It was easier that way.

‘I’ve been wanting to score a goal like that for a long time, it came at the right time. It was like a ballistic missile. It’s going to be a goal I’ll remember for the rest of my career. It certainly is, absolutely.

‘While the referee was checking the position, I was looking at Apo (Abdülkerim Bardakci) who came up to me and said, “What if it’s offside, what are you going to do?” I said, ‘Don’t worry, we’ll see it’s a goal,’ but it was a really good goal, it was an unbelievable goal,’ said the Nigerian who has now had seven goal involvements in seven games across two competitions for Galatasaray.

He has scored three times and provided two assists in four games in the Super Lig and two assists in his only Europa League appearance.
