Osimhen, Lookman turn focus to Europe after scoring in the league

Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman will turn their focus to Europe on Tuesday when their clubs return to action in the Europa League and the UEFA Champions League respectively.

Osimhen netted the only goal of the game to help Galatasaray a point at Hatayspor to maintain their grip on the top of the Turkish Super Lig. It was his 11th goal in 14 Super Lig matches since he joined the Yellow and Red on loan from Italian Serie A side, Napoli.

The 26-year-old will be keen to resume his goal scoring duty in the Europa League on Tuesday when Galatasaray face Dynamo Kyiv after missing the 2-2 draw at Malmo FF due to a muscle strain.

The Nigerian has scored three goals in four games in the competition so far this term and seven overall in 12 games to rank fourth among the Nigerian top scorers in the history of the competition.

Obafemi Martins (13), Victor Boniface (11) and Victor Ikpeba (8) have scored more than any other Nigerian has done in the history of the competition.

Lookman on the other hand will also be looking to score again in Europa after scoring a spectacular goal in his club, Atalanta’s 3-2 loss to Napoli in the Serie A.

Lookman, who has scored 13 goals in 25 appearances so far this season including 10 in 18 Serie A games, will be keen to score when his side host Sturm Graz at the Gewiss stadium on Tuesday.

The 27 year old scored his third goal in the competition on his fifth game, the 3-2 loss to Real Madrid and will be keen to add more as he bids to be the highest scoring Nigerian in a UEFA Champions League season.

The trio of Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Osimhen and Obafemi Martins scored five goals each in the 2002/03, 2004/05 and 2022/23 seasons respectively to become the highest scoring Nigerians in a UEFA Champions League season.

The outright Nigerian highest goal scorer in the competition remains the do of Martins and Osimhen with nine goals each.
