Osimhen overtakes Mbappe, Kane, Haaland as Champions League top scorer

Victor Osimhen has taken the lead in the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League top scorer race, overtaking Erling Haaland, Harry Kane, and Kylian Mbappé with a sensational hat-trick on Matchday 4.

The Galatasaray forward now sits atop the scoring chart with six goals, a remarkable achievement considering he missed Matchday 1 due to injury.

Osimhen’s rise has been nothing short of meteoric. After scoring the decisive goal in Galatasaray’s 1-0 win over Liverpool on Matchday 2, he followed up with a brace in the 3-1 victory over FK Bodø/Glimt.

His latest performance, a clinical treble against Ajax in Amsterdam, cemented his place as the tournament’s most prolific striker so far.

While Osimhen soared, his closest rivals faltered. Both Kane and Mbappé failed to score on Matchday 4, remaining on five goals.

Haaland, however, continued his consistent form, finding the net against his former club Borussia Dortmund to also reach five goals. The trio remains in close pursuit, but Osimhen’s efficiency and impact across just three matches have set him apart.

Mbappé’s five goals include three penalties, two of which came in Real Madrid’s win over Marseille on Matchday 1, followed by a strike at Kairat Almaty.

He later added two more from open play to complete the first hat-trick of the Champions League proper this season. Kane has been equally effective, scoring twice against Chelsea and Pafos, and adding another in Bayern’s 4-0 rout of Club Brugge.

Haaland, meanwhile, began the campaign by becoming the fastest player to reach 50 Champions League goals and has scored in each of Manchester City’s last three matches.

In the assists department, Bayern’s Michael Olise leads with four, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Marseille, Dominik Szoboszlai of Liverpool, and Manchester City’s Tijjani Reijnders each have three. Reijnders notably provided two assists in City’s win over Dortmund.

Osimhen’s hat-trick against Ajax joins a select group of standout performances this season, alongside Mbappé’s treble against Kairat Almaty and Fermín López’s three-goal haul in Barcelona’s 6-1 demolition of Olympiacos.
