Osimhen to Conte: ‘Mister, don’t waste time with me: I have decided to leave Napoli’

According to a report in Friday’s Italian newspaper, Areanapoli, Antonio Conte was very much interested in working with Victor Osimhen following his appointment as the new coach of the Partenopei but it was the Nigerian that told the former Italy international his time in Naples was over.

Conte was sure he could fire the Nigerian to replicate his 2022/23 form when he scored 26 times in 32 games to inspire Napoli to their first Scudetto in 33 years.

AreaNapoli reports that Gazzetta dello Sport, Mimmo Malfitano, said on Fuorigioco, a program broadcast on the Campania television station Televomero, that it was Osimhen who was very clear with Antonio Conte stating: “Mister, don’t waste time with me: I have decided to leave Napoli”.

According to Malfitano, Conte understood that he had no chance of convincing Osimhen to stay and loudly asked the club for the signing of Romelu Lukaku, a request that was granted by the Neapolitan club.

Osimhen could not get his desired move to Ligue 1 giants, PSG as well as Premier League side, Chelsea. Even a move to Al Ahli in the Saudi Pro League fell through leaving Nigerian with a last minute option of joining Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Ligue.
