Osimhen vows to return for Galatasaray’s clash with Atletico Madrid after AFCON 2025 duty

Victor Osimhen has reassured Galatasaray fans that he will be available for their upcoming Champions League showdown with Atletico Madrid, despite his current commitments with Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The 27-year-old striker, who has helped guide the Super Eagles to the semi-finals of AFCON 2025, spoke to CBS Sports Golazo ahead of Nigeria’s clash with Morocco. Osimhen admitted he misses his club deeply and is eager to rejoin the squad in Istanbul once the tournament concludes.

Asked whether he would be fit and ready for Galatasaray’s crucial tie against Atletico Madrid should Nigeria reach the AFCON final, Osimhen was emphatic: ‘Of course I will play. I miss Galatasaray very much. They have always supported me. As soon as the cup is over, I will be back and join the squad.’

The Nigerian forward also expressed confidence in Galatasaray’s ability to compete at the highest level in Europe.

‘The club’s goal this season is to go as far as possible in the Champions League. Atletico Madrid is a great team, but we have the strength and quality to beat them,’ he said.

Osimhen stressed that while his national team duties remain his immediate priority, his return to Galatasaray will be swift.

‘My country needs me right now. As soon as the cup is over, I should return to Galatasaray and be included in the squad immediately. We have very important matches in the Champions League, and it means so much to our fans around the world.’
