Osimhen’s market value drops, loses status as Most Valuable African Player

For the fourth straight time in under two years, Victor Osimhen’s market valuation has dropped following Transfermarkt’s update on the market values of 507 Turkish Süper Lig players.

The Nigerian has dropped from his €75m valuation by Transfermarkt last December to €70m with the implication that the Nigerian, a former African Player of the Year has lost his status as the Most Valuable African Player.

Manchester City and Egypt forward, Omar Marmoush is now the most valuable African player after his market valuation soared from €60m just three months again to €75m following his winter transfer to the reigning English champions and following the update on the Premier League market values on Tuesday.

Osimhen became the most valuable African in 2023 when his market value rose from €100m in March of that year to €120m just three months later.

That coincided with the Nigerian’s incredible performance in the 2022/23 Serie A season where his 26 goals in 32 games not only made him the first African to top score in the Italian topflight in a single season but also inspired Napoli to their first Scudetto in 33 years.

Since then, Osimhen’s value has continued to drop, first to €110m in December 2023 to €100m five months later.

It dropped again, this time to €75m in October 2024 and the Nigerian closed the year with the same valuation.

The 26 year old however remains the most valuable Nigerian, the highest ranked amongst Galatasaray players and the most valuable player in the Turkish Super Lig.

Osimhen is also in the top 50 of most valuable players in the world as he is presently ranked 43rd among all players worldwide and number 10 among all strikers in the world.
