Owen: Liverpool defeat of Everton is the final nail in the coffin for Arsenal

Manchester United and Liverpool legend, Michael Owen believes the Reds victory in Wednesday’s 246th instalment of the Merseyside derby which restores their 12 point lead at the top of the table has killed all hopes Arsenal may be harbouring of pulling a miracle and win their first Premier League title since the 2003/2004 season.

Owen, now a Premier League pundit said live on Sky Sports the title race is effectively over.

‘Everton had their chances, more than I thought they would. I thought Liverpool would dominate possession and I didn’t expect loads of goals. That is a huge result for Liverpool. That is the final nail in the coffin for Arsenal – they’re 12 points with eight games to play. It is a hell of a lot of points to catch now,’ said Owen.

It was Liverpool’s 100th Merseyside derby which puts them in good position to equal Manchester United’s 20 English top-flight league titles

Owen, now 45, scored 150 goals and provided 31 assists in 326 appearances in the Premier League for four teams with most of his goals (118) and assists (35) coming in 216 appearances for Liverpool.
