Paris 2024 Olympics 200m Final: Nigeria’s Onwuzurike out; Liberia’s Fahnbulleh, Botswana’s Tebogo and Zimbabweans Makarawu and Charamba in

Nigeria’s bid to produce a men’s 200m finalist was not successful for the eighth straight Olympics after Udodi Onwuzurike failed to advance to the final after finishing 20th in the overall classification with his 20.72 run.

While Nigeria’s waiting to see who succeeds the duo of Olapade Adeniken and Oluyemi Kayode (now late) who ran in the final of the event in 1992, three African nations will be represented in the final of the event on Thursday at the Stade de France.

Carrying Africa’s biggest hope for a medal since 1996 when Frankie Fredericks won the silver medal behind USA’s Michael Johnson is Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo who was the only man in the semifinals to break 20 seconds (19.96) and was second in the World Championship final last year.

Also in is Liberia’s Joseph Fahnbulleh, the double African sprint champion who ran 20.12 as well as the Zimbabwe duo of Tapiwanashe Makarawu and Makanakaishe Charamba who qualified as the two fastest losers.
