Paris 2024 Olympics: Egypt becomes third African to nation win a medal
Egypt has become the third African nation to make an appearance on the Paris 2024 Olympics medal table following Mohamed Elsayed’s bronze medal win in Fencing (the men’s Épée).
The north African country has now joined South Africa and Tunisia who are the first African nations to register their presence on the medal table after three days of action.
The South Africans won the bronze medal in the Rugby Sevens, beating Australia 26-19 at the Stade de France in Saint-Dennis, Paris.
Host nation, France defeated Fiji 28-7 to win the gold medal.
The Tunisians also registered their presence on the medal table courtesy Fares Ferjani who won the silver medal in the Fencing event.
The Tunisian lost 15-11 in the Men’s Sabre to OH Sanguk of South Korea in the gold medal bout.
Nigeria is yet to win a medal yet as all the athletes that have so far competed have crashed out of their respective event.
Three out of the four seeking for medals in the singles event in table tennis are out while the two boxers are also out with one of the boxers suspended and kicked out of the Games for spiking her system with a performance enhancing substance.
