Paris 2024 Olympics: Eze, Anyanacho complete miserable Friday for Team Nigeria

Following the unexpected ouster of Tobi Amusan from the women’s 100m hurdles and the disqualification of the men’s 4x400m for lane infringement after sealing their place in the final for the first time in 20 years, the duo of weightlifter, Joy Ogbonne Eze and Taekwondoist, Elizabeth Oluchi Anyanacho added to the misery later on to complete a sad, medal less Friday for Team Nigeria.

Anyanacho lost 0 – 2 to 7th ranked China’s Song Jie in the Women -67kg Round of 16. The Nigerian was hoping the Chinese player would get to the finals to have a chance to fight through the repechage rounds for a chance at a bronze medal, but it was not to be as the Chinese fell to Serbia’s Aleksandra Per 2-0 in the semifinal.

In the women’s wrestling (62kg), Esther Omolayo Kolawole lost 5-1 to Kyrgyzstan’s Aisuluu Tynybekova, who won the bout with a victory by Points.

It didn’t get better for Nigeria in the men’s 125kg Freestyle wrestling – Ashton Adeyemi Mutuwa lost by VSU (victory by technical superiority), losing 11-0 to Hungary’s Daniel Ligeti in the second round.

Eze then wrapped up the day of losses by finishing seventh in his 71kg weightlifting event, lifting a total of 232kg in the: Snatch; Clean and Jerk.
