Peseiro: I would have left as Super Eagles coach even if I had won AFCON trophy

Former Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro says he would still have not continued with his job if he had won the Africa Cup of Nations in February in Cote d’Ivoire.

The Portuguese guided Nigeria to second place in the final after losing the final 2-1 to the host, Cote d’Ivoire.

In an interview with SABC, Peseiro says the pressure and stress of coaching the Super Eagles drove him away from the job albeit he had the support of his backroom staff and the players.

He also revealed he really wanted to win the AFCON but lost to a team he defeated in the group stage.

‘There was too much stress. I had the support of my staff and the best from my players, but it wasn’t enough. I wanted to win the AFCON for the fans, the government, for everyone, but even before the tournament, I had already decided to leave. Even if I had won the trophy, I would have still left,’ Peseiro said in the two minutes and 15 seconds interview posted on SABC X page.
