Peter Obi: We don’t lack talents, we only lack right leadership and right environment
Peter Obi, the Labour Party Presidential candidate at the 2023 General Elections says the performance of Nigeria-born Yemisi Ogunleye, Naser Eid Naser (formerly Ebelechukwu Agbapuonwu) and Annette Nneka Echikunwoke at the Paris 2024 Olympics was a testament that the country is not lacking in talent.
Obi, who lambasted the poor outing of Team Nigeria who returned without a medal despite gulping over nine billion naira, says what the country needs is the right leaders to provide the right environment for our sports men and women to thrive.
In a tweet on Monday, Obi says the message from Paris is loud about how talented Nigerians are and how, working in the right environment can lead to success.
‘The loud message from the 2024 Olympics.
‘After I lamented Nigeria’s disastrous outing in the 2024 Paris Olympics yesterday, I would like Nigerians not to ignore the powerful message from the global sports event. While the giant of Africa finished without a single medal, Her incredible leadership and strategic prowess were noticed.
‘At various times, Nigerians continue to showcase their talents and prove that with the right environment and the right leadership, they can surmount all obstacles.
‘This message should challenge us to realize that our poor political leadership will continue to harm us irretrievably until we dismantle the corrupt system and enthrone a new Nigeria that is possible,’ wrote Obi on X.
