Premier League: Gunners looking to complete league double over Spurs to close gap on leaders, Liverpool

Arsenal will be looking to complete the Premier League double over Tottenham for the fifth time when both sides clash in a matchweek 21 tie Wednesday night at the Emirates stadium.

The Gunners won the first leg, as it were, 1-0 back in September at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium and Mikel Arteta’s men will be aiming for another clean sheet to match their feat of the . 2013/14 season when they secured a league double without conceding.

Arsenal haven’t tasted defeat at home to Tottenham in over 14 years and victory on Wednesday will mean the Gunners stringing together a run of three-straight league wins over their north London neighbours for the first time since 1989.

They defeated Spurs 1-0 at the Emirates stadium via a lone strike by Olivier Giroud on 23 minutes in September 2012 and made it a double in the reversed fixture in March 2014 via a second minute goal by Tomas Rosicky.

Arsenal also defeated Tottenham that same season in the FA Cup, wining 2-0 in January at the Emirates stadium via goals from Santi Cazorla (31) and Rosicky.

Arsenal will not only be banking on their home record this season-they are the only team in the division yet to lose at home this term- they will also be confident of beating a Spurs’ side that has won just once in their last eight matches. Tottenham’s only win came at rock-bottom Southampton.

A win for Arsenal will close the gap between them and Liverpool to four although the Premier League leaders have played a game less. It will also move them back to second, ahead of Nottingham Forest who drew 1-1 with Arne Slot’s men at the City Ground on Tuesday night.
