Premier League pundits: It will be difficult for Arsenal to catch Liverpool

Premier League pundits Ian Wright and Tim Sherwood believe the Premier League title chase is over for Arsenal after the Gunners gave up a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Aston Villa at the Emirates stadium on Saturday evening.

Mikel Arteta’s side are now six points adrift of Liverpool who won 2-0 at Brentford and have played a game less.

Wright, a former Arsenal player who scored 113 goals and provided 22 assists in 213 Premier League games believes Arteta needs help but doubts he can get the kind of players that can help the team this January transfer window.

‘It’s a disappointment when 2-0 up at home. Looks like it’s comfortable. We know that Villa on the break can be a problem, they showed that.

‘I think the manager needs massive help. We have to buy some players. Even when Saka was fit we needed another forward.’

“Who do Arsenal get in this window? Who is going to let go of the players Arsenal need, top end players, that will allow them to finish this race off?

‘Look at the leam today, Thomas Partey at right back, a young kid in Myles Lewis-Skelly at left back, Arsenal need help,’ said Wright a Premier League title winner with Arsenal on Sky Sports.

Former Tottenham manager, Sherwood is also confident Arsenal have given the title to Liverpool.

‘With the injury problems that Arsenal have, I don’t see them going unbeaten between now and the end of the season.

‘With that in mind, I just can’t see them winning the title from here. Liverpool can afford to have a dip, and they won’t lose five or six from here,’ said Sherwood on Sky Sports after the game.

Arsenal have now failed to win a Premier League home game in which they led by 2+ goals for the first time since October 2019 (2-2 vs Crystal Palace), having won each of their last 46 before Saturday night’s game.
