Pruzzo calls for Roma to sign AFCON 2025 lynchpin Lookman

Roma legend Roberto Pruzzo has called on his former club to make a bold move in the January transfer window by signing Nigeria international Ademola Lookman from Atalanta.

Speaking on Radio Radio, Pruzzo described Lookman as one of the best attackers in the world and insisted that his arrival could transform Roma’s season.

‘Roma should sign Lookman, maybe on loan. His adventure with Atalanta seems to be coming to an end,’ Pruzzo said. ‘With a purchase like that, we could really start dreaming. There’s nothing concrete, but it would be the right move to close the circle and have fun from now until the end of the season.’

Lookman, 28, has been in scintillating form over the past two seasons with Atalanta, contributing 55 goals and 26 assists in 134 appearances.

He was also instrumental in Nigeria’s third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, scoring three goals and providing four assists.

Roma, currently fourth in Serie A and seven points behind leaders Inter Milan, have already added Robinio Vaz from Marseille and Donyell Malen from Aston Villa this winter.

But Pruzzo believes Lookman could provide the spark needed to push the Giallorossi closer to silverware.

Despite Pruzzo’s plea, a deal remains complicated. Atalanta are notoriously difficult negotiators and would likely demand a fee in the region of €50 million, far beyond Roma’s current budget.

While Pruzzo suggested a loan move, Atalanta have made clear they will only consider outright sales.

Lookman has also been linked with Galatasaray, who are reportedly willing to break the bank to secure his signature.

With 18 months left on his contract, Atalanta may hold onto him until the summer, leaving Roma’s hopes uncertain.
