Reigning NPFL champions, Rangers International will be keen to extend their unbeaten run to 11 games when they host eternal rivals, Shooting Stars of Ibadan led by former coach of the Coal City side, Olugbenga Ogunbote at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
With a point and a position separating the eternal rivals on the twenty-team log of the ongoing NPFL season, Rangers with the full complement of its players save for the duo of Isaac Saviour and Ifeanyi Onyebuchi who are out on national duties for the Super Eagles ‘B’ squad, are well motivated to earn a good result against the invading ‘Oluyole Warriors’.
The Coal City side with five wins and five draws from its last ten matches where they have been able to score twelve goals and conceded thrice will be targeting an eight win over the Ogunbote led side since 2009 season
Shooting Stars have won seven of the last ten games with three losses, scoring thirteen times and conceding seven goals, but have been bad travelers as they have lost six of their eight away games so far.
Last season at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, it took the efforts of Kalu Nweke and Chiedozie Okorie to send back the ‘Oluyole Warriors’ to Ibadan with a 2-0 score line and the current squad is in a rich vein of form to crack out a favorable result inside an expected filled stands of the edifice as the gates have been thrown open for fans to come out in their numbers to see quality football on display.
‘We are prepared for a great game against a side that is in a rich form under a quality manager. We expect a difficult match but we have our eyes set for a good result that will enhance our position in the league.
‘We have what it takes to continue our unbeaten run and with the crowd coming out in their numbers, we believe that it will end with sweet songs on our lips,’ said Rangers Chief Coach Ekeh Ekenedilichukwu.
In seventeen league matches between these two top gladiators since 2009, Rangers have earned seven wins with 3SC winning four while six encounters have ended in a draw.
